Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy is facing an unusual political situation. Instead of the opposition, it is leaders from his own Congress Party who are repeatedly attacking him in public.
For a Chief Minister who often projects himself as the final authority in the government and the party, the growing criticism from Congress MLAs and senior leaders is becoming a serious image problem.
Leaders such as Danam Nagender and Pocharam Srinivas Reddy have reportedly expressed disappointment over joining the Congress, saying there is little they can achieve under the present setup.
Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy has gone even further, alleging that people in the government are looting huge amounts of public money.
When TPCC president Mahesh Kumar Goud reportedly warned him, Rajagopal Reddy is said to have hit back, asking him to give those lessons to Revanth instead.
Another Congress MLA, Anirudh Reddy, has also supported Rajagopal Reddy, saying there was nothing wrong in the criticism he made.
Senior leader Chinna Reddy has warned that if Revanth continues in the same style, he too may rebel like Jeevan Reddy.
The sharpest attack, however, came from Konda Sushmita. Angry over the Parkal ticket issue, she questioned whether power had gone to Revanth’s head.
She also accused Revanth and his brothers of looting the state and warned that she would expose more details if they challenged her.
The bigger political message is clear. Revanth may be the Chief Minister, but several leaders in his own party do not appear afraid of openly challenging him.
That is what is now giving rise to the perception that Revanth is looking politically weaker than many Chief Ministers in the recent history of the Telugu states.
The problem is not just criticism. It is the inability of the leadership to control repeated public attacks from within the party.
If this internal rebellion continues, Revanth’s biggest challenge may not come from BRS or BJP, but from Congress leaders sitting on his own side.
